Hot Tapping Materials, Industries and Applications Across the UAE

January 7, 2022 3 min read Hot Tapping

Hot tapping services in Dubai, UAE, Sharjah and Ajman use a special technique to make a connection on an existing live pipeline. By adopting the hot tapping technique, a pipe, tank or vessel can stay in operation while required modifications are carried out — with TCAL performing hot taps from a size of ½″ up to 48″.

How Hot Tapping Is Performed

The process involves attaching a welded or mechanical branch fitting to piping or equipment already in service, then creating an opening in that piping or equipment by drilling or cutting a portion within the attached fitting. It's usually performed when taking equipment or piping out of service — or purging and cleaning it by conventional methods — simply isn't feasible or practical.

Materials We Work With

TCAL performs hot tapping across a wide variety of materials, including:

  • Ductile and cast iron
  • Carbon steel
  • Stainless steels and alloys
  • Plastics
  • Asbestos cement
  • Reinforced concrete

Where It's Used

Hot tapping applies across a wider range of industries than most people expect:

  • Petrochemical industry
  • Hydrocarbons — crude or heavy oils
  • Light oils, including diesel, kerosene, petroleum
  • Various chemicals and gases
  • Power generation industry
  • Water and steam
  • Pharmaceutical & food industry
  • Compressed air
  • Utilities
  • Gas
  • Potable water
  • Sewerage
10 years of industry experience — TCAL has provided hot tapping services to a wide range of customers across the UAE and India, and remains a one-stop provider for both pipe freezing and hot tapping.

Why It's Worth Considering

Adopting hot tapping means you avoid a shutdown entirely — no downtime during production, no disturbance to the product's temperature, flow or pressure in the pipeline, and no need to drain the product out. For operators who can't afford to stop, that combination is hard to beat.
